Fishy tales

     Lucky Lad

One of our customers was fishing with a friend and was using two rods. The float rod was short with a large heavy reel and he was fishing some way out. His  friend distracted him at the time that he had a take and inevitably the rod slid quietly and elegantly into the water and disappeared from sight, apparently never to be seen again.

Resigned to the apparent fact that he would never see the expensive piece of fishing tackle again he continued to fish with his ledger rod and half an hour later he had a bite.

On landing the fish he noticed that there was a second hook in its mouth and this was attached to a line.

He detached the hook and gently pulled ……and pulled ….. and pulled the line until much to his astonishment he retrieved his original rod.

With such amazing luck we recommended that he bought a lottery ticket on the way home!

    Birthday Treat

Our old friend Ray arrived at 10 am and announced that it was his 75th birthday so we jokingly said that we would give him free fishing for the day on condition that he couldn’t go home until he caught 75 fish.

He took up the challenge and called it a day at 6.30pm having caught 100 fish.

    Fishing without a licence

We had noticed one or two small dead fish on the bank which had been partially eaten and we had been wondering about the cause.

At about this time we saw the Siamese cat from the caravan site sitting by the edge of the pond down by peg number 23 staring intently into the water.

It slowly pricked-up its ears and moved its body weight forward as if it was going to pounce but instead plunged a paw onto the water in an attempt to “hook” a fish.

Unfortunately for this fishy feline it miscalculated both the distance to the water and the dampness of the grass and losing its foothold it cartwheeled into the refreshingly cool waters of the pond!

I have to say that I have never seen a cat run such a long distance at such great speed in such a short time as it sought the refuge of its warm and dry home.

We have not had the pleasure of the company of the cat since!

It looks a bit like rain dear

Or rather…it looks a bit like a reindeer!

It is said that staring for hours at a float can stimulate hallucinations and the fishermen in mid-October thought that Christmas had arrived a little early when a reindeer strolled round the pond and proceeded to take a drink.

Steven, showing great presence of mind (and in order to prove that he had not been hallucinating) took the photograph below.

Our un-seasonal escapee visitor apparently lives next door at the farm shop in what is to be a Christmas grotto and was enticed away by bringing one of its friends who presumably persuaded it to return to train for the big day near the end of December.

We went round to the farm shop to say hello and here is a close-up of our handsome visitor.
